The Tech JAM — Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 30, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information The Tech JAM (“we,” “our,” or “the site”) collects when you visit thetechjam.com, how we use it, and the choices you have about it. We try to keep this short and plain.

Who we are

The Tech JAM is a personal review site about home office and gaming gear. Our website address is https://thetechjam.com.
If you need to reach us, use the Contact page.

What information we collect

Information you provide directly:
  • If you leave a comment, we collect what you submit in the comment form (name, email, website if you choose to share one, and the comment itself).
  • If you contact us through the contact form, we receive whatever you send us.
Information collected automatically when you visit the site:
  • Your IP address and browser user agent (used for spam protection and basic security).
  • Pages you visit, how you got to the site, your approximate location, device type, and similar analytics data — collected through Google Analytics.
  • Cookies (see the Cookies section below).

We do not collect payment information, and we do not require you to create an account to read or use this site.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Display and respond to comments
  • Reply to messages sent through the contact form
  • Understand what content readers find useful (via aggregated analytics)
  • Detect and prevent spam, abuse, and security issues
  • Comply with legal obligations

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, plus the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string for spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have an account there. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. If your comment is approved, your Gravatar profile picture (if you have one) will be visible alongside your comment.

Affiliate links

The Tech JAM participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

When you click an affiliate link on this site and make a purchase on Amazon, Amazon may set cookies on your browser to track that the click came from us, so we can be credited with the sale. We do not see your payment details, your Amazon account, or what specifically you buy beyond aggregated commission reports. Amazon’s own privacy practices are governed by Amazon’s Privacy Notice.

For more on how affiliate links work on this site, see our Affiliate Disclosure.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These exist so you don’t have to refill the form on future comments. These cookies last for one year.

We also use Google Analytics, which sets cookies to help us understand how visitors use the site. These cookies collect information in an aggregated, anonymous way. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

If you visit our admin login page (which is for the site owner only), additional cookies are set as part of the WordPress login process.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content such as YouTube videos, images, or social media posts. Embedded content from other websites behaves the same as if you had visited the other website directly. These third-party services may collect data about you, set cookies, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics (via the Google Site Kit plugin) to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics may collect information such as your IP address, device type, browser, pages visited, and time spent on the site. This data is used in aggregate and is not used to personally identify you.

You can read Google’s privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

  • Service providers that help us run the site (Hostinger for hosting, Google for analytics, Amazon for affiliate tracking, Akismet for spam filtering)
  • Law enforcement or legal authorities when required by law

If you request a password reset (which only applies if you have an admin account), your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

  • Comments: retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically.
  • Contact form messages: retained for up to 12 months unless we need to keep them longer to address an ongoing matter.
  • Analytics data: retained according to Google Analytics’ default retention settings.

Your rights over your data

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Request that we correct or delete that data
  • Object to or restrict how we process it
  • Withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing

To make any of these requests, email us through the Contact page. We don’t store much personal data, so most requests can be handled quickly.

This does not include data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service (Akismet).

The Tech JAM is hosted in the United States. If you are visiting from outside the U.S., be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
